While the main hotel with 67 rooms and suites is set atop a hill overlooking the bay, Splendido Mare nestles down in the town with just 16 rooms, so despite being in the heart of the action it is a rather intimate experience.
The hotel’s rooms have fantastic views of the harbour, just steps away, and it’s set on the iconic piazzetta close to all the shops and restaurants of pretty, pastel-coloured Portofino. They offer wonderful village, harbour and sea views, decorated in warm, Mediterranean colours that create a relaxing ambience. Take a gourmet tasting walking tour into the hills surrounding the hotel with a picnic packed full of local delicacies and freshly baked focaccia. What and Where to Eat
As you are at the heart of the piazzetta, you may wish to explore the many local restaurants harbourside. Don’t forget guests of Belmond Hotel Splendido Mare have access to the the restaurants at Belmond Hotel Splendido with a shuttle running in between. Champagne cruises can be arranged on the hotel’s private boat or, for that special occasion, we can arrange for you to sail to the San Fruttuoso Bay where a private dinner per due is set up on the beach.

When to travel
The Italian Riviera is a hubbub of activity from June until early September, when superyachts bob in the harbour and the bays become a magnet for both chic Italians and travellers alike. Late September sees the amount of visitors dwindle to a trickle, while the last of the honeysuckle scents the streets; peace at last.
WEATHER: Portofino is a little suntrap on Italy’s west coast Riviera, with mild winters and hot summers. Visit from May to early October for the best weather.
