OVERVIEW
Set in the ruggedly beautiful Peloponnese, southwest of Athens, Amanzoe is a luxurious and refreshingly pared-back hotel. It is set on a hilltop amid the olive groves that characterise the region. Replete with stories of myth and legend, the Peloponnese is steeped in ancient Greek folklore. It is surrounded by archaeological sites, like Epidaurus, the fortress at Napflion and the island of Monemvasia. From Amanzoe you’ll find several Greek islands within easy reach, including Hydra and Spetses. There is also a chic beach club on the coast below.
Amid rolling vineyards and cypress trees, the hotel looks like a contemporary Parthenon. There is an imposing lobby and soaring columns of marble and stone. Where to stay
Rooms here aren’t just rooms; they are private pavilions, separate from other guests in freestanding buildings. Decorated in the soothing Aman style with pale walls, natural stone and minimal furniture, you can choose between six-metre or 12-metre pools, views of the olive-studded horizon or the sea and a host of other options to make your pavilion personal to you. What to do
With its location amid ancient olive groves, Amanzoe is set within a region steeped in mythology. There are several archaeological sites nearby, including the Sanctuary of Asclepius at Epidaurus and the citadel of Mycenae, or if island hopping is more your thing, super-chic Spetses and car-free Hydra are close by. There are a number of traditional fishing villages to explore, too – or you could just soak up the sun at the super-chic Beach Club.
