OVERVIEW
Located just 40 minutes’ drive from Cancun International Airport, Banyan Tree Mayakoba is a far cry from the beach clubs and bars of Playa del Carmen. Set on a spectacular beach on the paradisiacal Riviera Maya, the resort is an oasis of calm amid a dense mangrove forest, where the cries of many different species of bird can be heard at dusk. Getting around is easy via a network of walkways and boat tours amid the mangrove channels.
Banyan Tree hotels are famous for their spas, and Banyan Tree Mayakoba is no different. Lauded with awards including Best Luxury Destination Spa (America), the spa is home to a new concept known as The Rainforest, which features a hydrothermal circuit comprising hot and cold cabins, a rain walk, aroma steam chamber and Finnish sauna. Many of the treatments are infused with local ingredients, including Melipona honey gathered from Mexican bees.
There are 11 restaurants to choose from, ranging from modern Thai cuisine to tomahawk steaks. Each of the restaurants has a fantastic setting; Haab is set in an intimate courtyard lit by flaming torches, while you can dine on a tranjira boat for a romantic evening for two, or sit out on deck and listen to the sounds of the mangroves.

What to do

What and Where to Eat
As well as its 11 dining establishments, Banyan Tree Mayakoba offers an array of unusual experiences. Meet the local fishermen to choose your catch of the day and decide with the chef how you’d like it cooked and served (and even where you’d like to eat it), or take off on a tapas cruise around the lagoons and waterways that surround the resort. When to travel
Riviera Maya’s Caribbean climate means the region can be visited year round, however the summer months of June to early November can be very humid and wet. Visit from December to May for the clearest skies.
